Course Description

This three-day short course is designed for faculty and graduate students in the area of dynamics and control. Topics include: (1) LPV control theory, with emphasis on how to generalize the linear matrix inequality (LMI) based H-infinity control method from linear systems to LPV systems; (2) Computer-aided LPV control design, with emphasis on how to use Matlab LMI toolbox to design different LPV controllers including state-feedback and output-feedback; (3) Applications of LPV control method, with emphasis on how to apply LPV control technologies to different complex nonlinear systems including aircraft, active magnetic bearings, and wind turbines.  

Presenter Bio

Bei Lu is an Associate Professor in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at California State University Long Beach, where she has served as a faculty member since 2005. She received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Power and Mechanical Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China, in 1996 and 1999, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State University in 2004. 

Dr. Lu’s area of specialty is in control theory, design, and implementation, as well as dynamics modeling and vibration analysis. She has participated in the research projects funded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). She has been in charge of the research projects funded by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) and the California Department of Transportation (CALTRANS). Dr. Lu has published one book and over 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers. She is the recipient of Northrop Grumman Excellence in Teaching Award in 2011 and Wang Family Faculty Award in 2012.
