One of our Ph.D. candidates, Siwei Pan, studied at the Ray W. Herrick Laboratories of Purdue University, USA, as a visiting scholar from Sept. 4th, 2010 – Aug. 31st, 2011. In that period, he did the study and research on the ‘Prediction and Visualization methods of Transient Sound Field in Time Domain’ under the guidance and help of Professor J. Stuart Bolton of Herrick Laboratories.
During the visiting, Pan had learned two acoustics courses - Engineering Acoustics and Advanced Engineering Acoustics, opened by the School of Mechanical Engineering and one math course - Advanced Mathematics for Engineers and Physicists, opened by the Department of Mathematics. Professor Bolton provided Pan with much assistance by means of his project about the loudspeaker radiated sound field reconstruction in room environment, which was sponsored by SONY. Based on the achievements obtained within Pan’s stay at Purdue, Siwei Pan had performed writing a scientific paper together with Prof. Weikang Jiang, Prof. J. Stuart Bolton and the graduate student, Yangfan Liu, at Herrick Labs, and has been preparing for the submission.
In the meanwhile, Pan participated in the ceremony of welcoming President Hu Jintao of P. R. China at Chicago and also helped the local Church with the furniture give-away to the new coming international Purdue students and scholars, etc.
