Inter-Noise 2013, the 42nd International Congress and Exposition on Noise Control Engineering, was held in Innsbruck, Austria from 15-18 September 2013. Prof. Weikang Jiang and his team members, Young teacher Haibin Zhang and Ph.D. student Shang Xiang to be exact, attended the conference. Furthermore, both Haibin Zhang and Shang Xiang gave the oral presentation in the conference.

    The conference is sponsored by the International Institute of Noise Control Engineering (I-INCE), and is being organized by the Austrian Noise Abatement Association (Österreichischer Arbeitsring für Lärmbekämpfung) (ÖAL). The theme of the conference is ‘Noise Control for Quality of Life’. Over 1000 experts and scholars from Europe, North America, Asia, Africa and Australia (around 41 countries) were attracted to attend the conference. There are more than 800 oral presentations, 100 posters and 8 keynote lectures in this conference. The INTER-NOISE conferences have been held each year since 1972 at venues around the world. The conference has been held in China twice. One is 16^th Inter-Noise held in Beijing in 1987 and the other is 37^th Inter-Noise held in Shanghai in 2008.

    In the session ‘Sound Visualization and Realization’, Haibin Zhang and Shang Xiang gave the oral presentations - ‘Comparative study of spatial complex envelope and cyclostationary near-field acoustical holography for visualizing amplitude modulation sound field’ and ‘Inverse patch transfer functions based nearfield acoustic holography with dual layer pressure measurements’ respectively. They showed the latest research results and answered the questions from experts and scholars. Also, their research fruits were accepted by colleagues in the session.

    During the conference, Prof. Jiang and his team listened to presentations of their research interests, and discussed and exchanged with peer researchers on academic questions. Additionally, they visited the products from B&K Company and software from Cadna Company, which may be used in future research.
